How Can I Know Whether I’m Hiring a “Father’s Attorney”?

PDF Print

There are many lawyers now marketing themselves as “father’s attorneys”, “father friendly” or “the father’s attorney” and the like. The truth is there is no official license or certification from the State Bar Association in Texas or any Father’s organization that formally sanctions someone as a “father’s attorney”.  Attorneys can market themselves however they wish, within certain rules. While it is an effective way for some attorneys to let the public know their practice emphasis, the danger comes when it is abused or misused by those who really are not quite sincere about it.

So what should you look for in searching for a “father’s attorney”?

A lawyer who —

  • Has a track record or supporting Fathers Rights organizations and causes with their time and donations.
  • Tries and wins cases for men’s rights.
  • Represents mostly or only men.
  • Has a reputation as being an advocate for men’s rights.
  • Recognizes that inequality in the treatment of fathers and husbands still persists.
  • Strongly believes in men having the right to fully participate in their children’s lives.
  • Is willing to fight for men’s rights in any court at any time in any manner, including trial.
  • Has perfected strategies, techniques and resources for use arguing men’s rights.
  • Has personally experienced unjust and unfair treatment by the courts and seen how it impacts the right to participate in children’s lives.
  • Is a man.
