Texas Paternity

PDF Print

paternityThese days, many people have children outside of marriage. If you have a child outside of marriage, you are not the child’s legal father, but you can and should legally establish your parentage of the child through court. This will entitle you to the same rights as any husband, including: joint conservatorship, primary custody, visitation, requiring the mother to pay you child support if you have primary custody, making sure your child has your last name and making sure the child will inherit from you.

Or, your child’s mother may want to legitimize her child and obtain child support from you.

Men, if a court order is entered declaring you the legal father of a child, you will almost certainly not be able to change it later. Additionally, there may a time limit on the ability to dispute or establish paternity. Not knowing your rights and duties in this area may have far-reaching and binding impact.

I am able to guide you in this area. For qualified counsel regarding paternity issues in Texas, contact me now.
